How does prompt engineering affect ChatGPT performance on unsupervised entity resolution?

Entity Resolution (ER) is the problem of semi-automatically determining when two entities refer to the same underlying entity, with applications ranging from healthcare to e-commerce. Traditional ER solutions required considerable manual expertise, including feature engineering, as well as identification and curation of training data. In many instances, such techniques are highly dependent on the domain. With recent advent in large language models (LLMs), there is an opportunity to make ER much more seamless and domain-independent. However, it is also well known that LLMs can pose risks, and that the quality of their outputs can depend on so-called prompt engineering. Unfortunately, a systematic experimental study on the effects of different prompting methods for addressing ER, using LLMs like ChatGPT, has been lacking thus far. This paper aims to address this gap by conducting such a study. Although preliminary in nature, our results show that prompting can significantly affect the quality of ER, although it affects some metrics more than others, and can also be dataset dependent.
ChatGPT Performance on Standardized Testing Exam -- A Proposed Strategy for Learners
This study explores the problem solving capabilities of ChatGPT and its prospective applications in standardized test preparation, focusing on the GRE quantitative exam. Prior research has shown great potential for the utilization of ChatGPT for academic purposes in revolutionizing the approach to studying across various disciplines. We investigate how ChatGPT performs across various question types in the GRE quantitative domain, and how modifying question prompts impacts its accuracy. More specifically this study addressed two research questions: 1. How does ChatGPT perform in answering GRE-based quantitative questions across various content areas? 2. How does the accuracy of ChatGPT vary with modifying the question prompts? The dataset consisting of 100 randomly selected GRE quantitative questions was collected from the ETS official guide to GRE test preparation. We used quantitative evaluation to answer our first research question, and t-test to examine the statistical association between prompt modification and ChatGPT's accuracy. Results show a statistical improvement in the ChatGPT's accuracy after applying instruction priming and contextual prompts to the original questions. ChatGPT showed 84% accuracy with the modified prompts compared to 69% with the original data. The study discusses the areas where ChatGPT struggled with certain questions and how modifications can be helpful for preparing for standardized tests like GRE and provides future directions for prompt modifications.
Can ChatGPT pass the Vietnamese National High School Graduation Examination?

This research article highlights the potential of AI-powered chatbots in education and presents the results of using ChatGPT, a large language model, to complete the Vietnamese National High School Graduation Examination (VNHSGE). The study dataset included 30 essays in the literature test case and 1,700 multiple-choice questions designed for other subjects. The results showed that ChatGPT was able to pass the examination with an average score of 6-7, demonstrating the technology's potential to revolutionize the educational landscape. The analysis of ChatGPT performance revealed its proficiency in a range of subjects, including mathematics, English, physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography, civic education, and literature, which suggests its potential to provide effective support for learners. However, further research is needed to assess ChatGPT performance on more complex exam questions and its potential to support learners in different contexts. As technology continues to evolve and improve, we can expect to see the use of AI tools like ChatGPT become increasingly common in educational settings, ultimately enhancing the educational experience for both students and educators.
